It\u2019s quick and easy:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dopl.utah.gov\">www.dopl.utah.gov<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>\u201cVerify a License.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Search by name, business, or license number (contractor licenses end in <strong>-5501<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Check to make sure the license is active and hasn\u2019t expired.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll to the <strong>\u201cClassifications\u201d<\/strong> section to see the kind of work they\u2019re licensed to do.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u2705 <strong>Licensed = Legal<\/strong><br \/>\n\ud83d\udeab <strong>No license = No go<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Handymen have limits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No license required if jobs are <strong>under $3,000<\/strong> (materials + labor).<\/li>\n<li>With a <strong>handyman exemption<\/strong>, they can go up to <strong>$7,000<\/strong> (materials + labor).<\/li>\n<li>Fully licensed = <strong>no cap<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u26a1 <strong>Apprentice electricians<\/strong> must work under a <strong>Journeyman<\/strong> or <strong>Master<\/strong> \u2014 no solo jobs allowed!<\/p>\n<p>If your search comes up empty (and you\u2019ve double-checked spelling), they\u2019re NOT licensed to work in Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Still unsure?<br \/>\n\ud83d\udcde Call DOPL: (801) 530-6628<br \/>\n\ud83d\udce7 Email DOPL: b4@utah.gov<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Better safe than sorry\u2014check before you hire!<\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contractors: Before you commit, make sure they\u2019re legit!!
