Contractors: Before you commit, make sure they’re legit!!
Before you commit to a contractor, check their license with Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). It’s quick and easy:
- Visit www.dopl.utah.gov.
- Click “Verify a License.”
- Search by name, business, or license number (contractor licenses end in -5501).
- Check to make sure the license is active and hasn’t expired.
- Scroll to the “Classifications” section to see the kind of work they’re licensed to do.
✅ Licensed = Legal
🚫 No license = No go
Handymen have limits:
- No license required if jobs are under $3,000 (materials + labor).
- With a handyman exemption, they can go up to $7,000 (materials + labor).
- Fully licensed = no cap.
⚡ Apprentice electricians must work under a Journeyman or Master — no solo jobs allowed!
If your search comes up empty (and you’ve double-checked spelling), they’re NOT licensed to work in Utah.
