The history of the MURPH workout:
This event is to honor Navy SEAL officer, Lt. Michael Murphy and all other veteran heroes that have died serving our country. Murphy, age 29, died while serving in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005 and was the first member to receive the Medal of Honor for his service in the Middle East on May 24th, 2015.
Lt. Michael Murphy was known as a CrossFit Enthusiast and had a favorite workout that he called “Body Armor” since he did it with a weighted vest. That workout would later become “The MURPH”.

The CrossFit company decided to officially name the famous workout “The MURPH” in Murphy’s memory on August 18th, 2005 and is known as a Hero WOD (workout of the day). Since then, people are known to participate in the “MURPH” workout on Memorial Day to honor our veteran heroes.
